My First Blog

The fashion of people posting blog sites about their own views and opinions on aspects of life has been sky rocketing. I have also fell into the trend of blogging. This whole aspect was brought onto me by my nephew in Toronto. For I like the millions of other people in this world have thoughts and knowledge about life that I feel i need to share with the world. I'll try to keep up with this blog despite my busy university schedule and I encourage people to come and visit my blog and leave thoughts and comments about it.
For my first ever entry since it is Valentine's day I thought I would share my thoughts and opinions on this day. Now I am not one to complain about how shitty Valentine's day is if you dont have someone to share it with. Our childhood experiences have forced us to believe that everyone will receive something on Valentines day! I mean if you think about it its mandatory for each child to give valentine cards that their parents have bought and give it to every kid in the class despite the fact that they might not be your friend. Therefore when we hit high school there is no such thing as one single classroom. Yes i know there is your homeroom but its not the same thing trust me. And if you dont like a person then you dont have to give them a Valentine card. Thus that person's self-esteem level gradually goes lower! However, it is in high school that the entire aspect of "love" begins to play a key role as to what you get for your Valentine.
I'm going to share a story with you from my own high school experience with Valentine's. My best friend at the time was this girl who had moved from London, England with her mother and step-father and she was dating a very good friend of mine. Now he had bought 2 dozen yellow roses for her. The florist had told him to put the roses in the freezer for a few hours prior to giving them to her so they would be nice and fresh. So wat he decided was he was going to put them in the freezer before he went to bed and get up early and take them out. However, the next day he slept in and then took the roses out just before he was going to leave for school. Thus when she got the roses they were hard as rocks and they smelled like the freezer. She was very much disappointed and the effort he had put into a very special Valentines gift was ruined. Thus I believe that this holiday is another one of those "hallmark made holidays" the stats on how much people spend on valentines is staggering and all meaningless. Love shouldn't be set out for just one day it should be celebrated everyday despite how corny that sounds I believe in that!

i agree with your thought on love being expressed everyday, however i think it gives you an excuse to do something for the person u love or like. Sometimes with a busy schedule you dont have time to go out to dinner or do something to show your love..this day gives you a chance to catch up with the love you share with your special someone.

I agree with wat ur saying seetai but what about those people who work on this "special day" I mean if they work in a restaurant then its a busy day for them and if they work in a grocery store then its the most dragged out day. And then there is the disappointment of not being with the one you love on this special day because they have to work. So maybe Valentines day should be a 2 day event perhaps just like there is Christmas and Boxing day! lol
