Should Fashion Designers have Restaurants?
Yesterday I came across some very intriguing information. My history prof spent reading week in Chicago. This prof has traveled all around the world to different countries including plenty of third world countries, and he began telling the class on how he was very conscientious about what he ate while in these countries because he didn't want to get sick. However, he assumed that he was safe to eat food in America. So he went to the only Ralph Lauren Restaurant the located in Chicago. He began to explain how the food was amazing and that the service was very good to. However, the next day he got a bad case of food poising that lasted for nearly a week. He emailed the restaurant and told them about what had happened. They replyed back with a lengthy email apologizing and componsating with a free dinner for him and a guest. So this brings me to my question: Do you think that fashion designers should perhaps focus more on the their clothing and stay away from the restaurant industry? Or was this just one case and we should try to "trust" them with their cuisine?

well i think u cant say that all fashion designers cant run restuarants....it all depends on wat kinda service the restaurant gives..i mean if everything is organised the cooks are watching there hands after using the bathroom..lol..i mean there are many things that shd be loooked into before opening or even running a restaurant..perhaps some fashion designers dont have enough time to make sure all the checks are made befor the start serving food to customers...however i dont think all fashion designers can be soo oblivious to any means of getting food poisoning...im sure some would take well care of there customers. the question is after the guy got food poisoning shd he go there again with another friend for the complementary dinner...lol..shd they be given another chance...i mean everyone makes mistakes but if i was to get sick off of food soem where i doubt id goo back even if it was for free....i think someone people shd jsut stick to wat the are doing cus thts wat they do best..but people shd be given the chance to do other things aswell...as long as they do it with all there dedication and hard work and make sure everyuthing gooes superb.

Hi Kirandeep,
I just want to share this bit of information regarding food poisoning. You mentioned that your friends became ill the following day. To me, that seems like too much of a time delay. Now, I should also state that I have no Medical Credentials, and therefore, I may be wrong. However, this is what I have observed about Food Poisoning: Many years ago, I worked for a major metropolitan newspaper. (No, I'm not Superman nor am I a Reporter. But come to think of it, I am mild-mannered.) Anyway, the Newspaper was located in Downtown Los Angeles, which had many very good restaurants at that time. I cannot speak with any authority now, since I have not been to Downtown L.A. for many years now. Nevertheless, like most large cities there are some Restaurants which should be avoided if possible. As it happened, my Department happened to employ a large number of hip young people, and we all tended to be fairly adventurous by nature. Some of us enjoyed trying out new eateries from time to time, and then sharing our discoveries. All went well until one evening (We worked the Swing Shift) about a dozen people returned from lunch singing the praises of a new restaurant they had sampled. About four hours later, all of these people developed severe diarrhea and vomiting. (As I recall, there were lines at the Rest-Rooms.) Fortunately, no one had to go to the hospital, but they were very sick puppies for a while there. Now, since the illness only affected the people who had eaten at the new restaurant, there was no doubt that it was the source of the problem. I have only known of one other instance of multiple cases of food poisoning, and that happened in Viet-Nam, many years ago. As part of our Christmas Feast, someone got the bright idea of adding Shrimp-Cocktail to the Menu. After we had enjoyed our meal at the Brigade’s Main Base, the Mess-Hall Staff loaded the moveable feast onto several trucks, and transported it out to the various Fire-Bases. It must have been about 90-Degrees in the shade on that day. Anyway, to make a long story short, the food poisoning struck a large number of people at almost exactly the same moment, a few hours after Dinner. I was not an eye-witness, but one of my most trustworthy buddies was there, and he reported it to me a few days after it happened. He said that guys walking down the road just grabbed their bellies and fell to the ground in agony! He saw one fellow roll off the road into a ditch. As he looked around, he saw this happening in almost every direction. At first he and his co-workers suspected that it was the work of a very busy Sniper, or maybe a Poison Gas attack. He said that he had never seen anything like it. As it turned out, it was not a Sniper, nor was it Poison Gas. Nope, it was the Shrimp Cock-Tail. In closing, I just want to say that it may be possible that the Famous Designer Restaurant was not the source of the food poisoning, too much of a time lag. I hope this information is helpful. Oh, by the way: Some of the little Mom and Pop Restaurants have very high standards of sanitation. On the other hand, if you could check out the kitchens at some of the well known Up-Scale Joints (No Names here, thank you.) you'd be Brown-Baggin’ it for the rest of your life! I kid you not.
